* Mr. Taylor's 80th Birthday Celebration
The Paul Taylor Dance Company returns to New York City Center for a magnificent season celebrating the 80th birthday of Paul Taylor, part of the pantheon that created modern dance, one of the two indigenous American artforms. The repertoire of 18 dances features two New York Premieres, perennial favorites and major revivals.
2010 birthday festivities include the following:
Wednesday, February 24: The birthday celebration begins with the season opener benefiting Dancers Responding to AIDS.
Thursday, February 25: You are invited to an Open House from 6 to 8:30pm at the Paul Taylor Dance Company’s new studios at 551 Grand Street on the Lower East Side.
Friday, February 26: The 8pm performance will be followed by the onstage presentation of a birthday cake to Mr. Taylor.
Tuesday, March 2: The Birthday Gala performance will include two New York Premieres – Mr. Taylor’s vaudeville tribute, Also Playing, and Brief Encounters, set to music by Debussy. Following the performance, Gala guests will attend a star-studded black-tie dinner with dancing at Cipriani 42nd Street.
Saturday, March 6: The matinee performance at 3pm is Paul Taylor’s birthday gift to you: every seat in the house costs just $8! Then, from 5 to 7:45pm, Friends of the Paul Taylor Dance Company will have an opportunity to meet Mr. Taylor and Company Alumni at a between-performances reception. Friends who have tickets to either the matinee or evening performance may attend. To become a Friend click here.
